[Back to Main Page]

Introduction

Welcome to the NetTutor® Manual! NetTutor® provides a convenient way for instructors and tutors to offer assistance to students in areas such as, but not limited to, mathematics, chemistry, accounting, composition, and foreign languages. The tutors and students may be physically located anywhere, provided they have Internet access.

NetTutor® offers many areas of use: Live Chat, Live Tutorial, Q&A Center, Worksheets, the Archives, and an Administration area. Each of these areas will be discussed in detail in other sections of this manual. The WWWhiteboard™ is the primary tool used to share material either interactively (via the Live Chat or Live Tutorial) or offline (via the Archive Center, Q&A Center, or Assignements). A detailed description of the WWWhiteboard™ and its usage is given here.

Logging In & Registration

Logging into NetTutor® is as easy as going to http://www.nettutor.com and then entering your user ID and password in the spaces provided on the left. If you have forgotten your password, click the Forgot your password link on the left. You will be asked to enter your user ID, and the password will be sent via email to the email address associated with the user ID you entered. You also have the option to make your computer remember your login information. This is done by checking the checkbox below the Login button. From that point on, when your computer visits http://www.nettutor.com, you will automatically be logged in. If you need to cancel this behavior, you can click the Logout link that will be in the left navigation frame after logging in.

To use NetTutor® as either a student or a tutor, you must be authorized (directly or indirectly) to do so. Generally, this means that the NetTutor® site administrator or your group administrator has established a class with given "tutors," and the group or site administrator then registers students into the tutorial classes. Alternatively, the instructor may decide to have students self-register into the class. If this is the case, click the Register Now link, and fill out the form. Make sure your user ID is in all lowercase letters and that your password is at least 6 characters long.

To receive a NetTutor® login and password that gives you tutor privileges, consult your NetTutor® group administrator. If self-registration is not an option, contact the instructor or tutor for a particular class to receive a login and password for that tutorial class.
